For many people, these sorts of body treatments are an afterthought. When we’re experiencing pain (usually back pain) for a week straight, we will book a massage. If we are feeling completely burnt out, maybe we will take time for a nice spa day.
And chances are good this will be done reactively rather than being scheduled ahead of time which is actually counter-productive given how much benefits can accrue from regularly having them done. Here’s why if your only experience with massage has been “I’m going to get one when I’ve had enough.”
Muscle tension builds quietly, long before you notice it? Most people who book a massage don’t do it because they suddenly have some sort of knot and need to get rid of it. If you have felt a knot or experienced really sharp stiffness then chances are that there has been build-up over several weeks already, perhaps from sitting too much (like, always at your desk), poor posture or stress.
Getting a massage can be helpful if you’re feeling this way but getting just one won’t necessarily clear out all of the knots because they have been accumulating for months, or longer. Regularly booking sessions, whether they are more involved or you want to go every few weeks with really basic things, will ensure you are not waiting until everything gets really tight.
Not all messages are solving the same problem ?
A relaxing aromatherapy massage vs deep tissue massage is not always an easy thing to differentiate. While I agree these types of massage therapy seem quite similar, their underlying approaches vary greatly.
So, if you’re confused whether you should choose between a relaxing aromatherapy massage or a deep tissue massage, read ahead here.
What’s an aromatic massage? An aromatherapy and Swedish style massage involves relaxing touch and light pressure applied over your body parts. Its primary intention is to improve blood flow while helping calm the mind by reducing stress levels. Deep Tissue Massage, as its name suggests, entails a different kind of approach where the therapist applies firm yet focused pressure on certain points of our bodies that contain tighter muscles. This massage helps eliminate such chronic issues by releasing tension through deeper tissues of our muscles.
It may appear confusing but if we understand the difference clearly between an aromatic massage and a deep tissue massage then there won’t be confusion anymore! We’ll also know what type of massage to go for based on our individual needs rather than pick something random because of being overwhelmed with options offered by a therapist at his salon center! In short, choosing the right kind of massage therapy depends solely upon knowing exactly what we require either relaxation purposes only or muscular release benefits instead of just opting whatever service sounds great when heard about.
The relaxation part is not just a bonus, it’s doing real work ?
The relaxing spa-like atmosphere with soft lighting, soothing music, and warm oils definitely makes the experience a better one for most people. However, there’s actually science behind it. Having a more relaxed state will allow you to release your muscle much more effectively.
In fact, if you have ever had someone give you a massage at their house vs. going to a spa, chances are they weren’t able to get the same results because your nervous system was less relaxed.
Body treatments aren’t just about muscles either ?
The reason why these two things go together well is not just about relaxing your muscles for a while, there’s also more going on during those other kinds of body spa services you hear about too. For example, people might enjoy getting their bodies scrubbed down as much as they want massages, since doing this helps exfoliate their skin, hydrating otherwise neglected parts of it like elbows, knees, feet, etc. This area of skin tends to be the most ignored part of our routines (since we can hardly get them all the time).
Putting it all together means pairing your muscle relaxation with some kind of treatment service where you can take care of what’s happening right above your own relaxed muscles.
How often is it actually worth it?
We don’t have to meet weekly. Monthly works fine as well (as opposed to not meeting for months) Especially if someone deals with lots of stress daily, spends time working on the computer or does physical activities.
We’re doing maintenance, nothing more. Just keep our bodies clean instead of letting them get into bad shape and then fixing everything by throwing money at it just like we wouldn’t wait until a little dental problem turns into something worse than that and then visit the dentist.
So when should you actually book one?
You know how we’ve been saying this for years now? Don’t wait until you desperately need something. Wait until you are experiencing visible pain OR are completely burnt out. Then you’ll just be constantly catching up by scheduling lots of sessions, all to undo physical stress and tension that could’ve easily been alleviated with consistent body spa & massage treatments!
